South Carolina Shooting Leaves at Least 11 Hospitalized on Memorial Day Weekend

A shooting in Little River, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach, has left at least 11 people hospitalized, according to the Horry County Police Department (HCPD). The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 25th, near a boat dock along the Intracoastal Waterway.

HCPD responded to the scene on Watson Avenue and confirmed that Horry County Fire Rescue transported 11 individuals to area hospitals. Authorities also noted that other individuals may have arrived at hospitals via personal vehicles. The police have classified the incident as an active and ongoing investigation.

While the investigation is underway, the HCPD has stated that they believe the shooting to be an "isolated incident" and that there is "no risk to the community at this time." Residents are advised to avoid the area as public safety personnel continue their work.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, a North Myrtle Beach police officer was also injured on Sunday evening. The officer's service weapon accidentally discharged while responding to an "unrelated call for service" in the Little River area. The officer sustained a leg injury and is in stable condition.
