Asher White Releases Full-Album Cover of Jessica Pratt's Debut, Announces Tour
Musician Asher White has unveiled a full-album cover of Jessica Pratt's self-titled debut album, originally released in 2012. The project, which has garnered praise from Pratt herself, showcases White's unique musical interpretations of Pratt's work.
White's cover album features her playing a wide array of instruments, including vocals, electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, bass, drums, electronics, percussion, prepared piano, string arrangements, synths, and programming. The album also features guest appearances by Bee Clark on vocals for the song "Casper" and Lila Lifton on violin for "Midnight Wheels." The cover album follows White's 2025 album, "8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living."
White's inspiration for the project stems from her deep appreciation for Pratt's debut album, which she discovered in late 2021. White described the album as one she listened to repeatedly, leading her to imagine and create her own arrangements.
Accompanying the album release is the announcement of a headlining tour for White. The tour will kick off in Brooklyn on April 28th, followed by a series of dates on the west coast in May.
BNN's Perspective:
This project is a testament to the enduring power of music and the creative inspiration it can spark. While covering an entire album is a bold move, White's approach, as described, seems to honor the original while adding a fresh perspective. It will be interesting to see how this translates to a live performance.
