Apple Empowers iPad Owners with Self-Service Repair Expansion
Apple is giving iPad owners more control over their devices. In a move that expands its Self Service Repair program, Apple now allows users to fix their own iPads at home, offering genuine parts and repair resources. This expansion, announced on May 29th, provides an alternative to the Genius Bar for those comfortable with DIY repairs.
The Self Service Repair Store now offers a range of genuine iPad parts, including displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports. Users can also access repair toolkits and arrange Apple Diagnostics sessions to aid in the repair process. This initiative also benefits independent repair providers, who can now legally access parts and offer iPad repair services to their customers.
This expansion covers several iPad models, including the iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Pro (M4), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad (A16). This follows previous expansions of the self-repair program, which began in 2022 and included the MacBook Pro in 2023.
Apple's Vice President of AppleCare, Brian Naumann, emphasized the company's commitment to product longevity. "With today's announcement, we're excited to expand our repair services to more customers, enabling them to further extend the life of their products, all without compromising safety, security, or privacy," he stated.
Furthermore, Apple announced that its Self Service Repair options will be available in Canada this summer, making it the 34th country to offer the program. This move reflects a broader trend towards consumer empowerment and the "Right to Repair" movement, which advocates for easier access to repair resources.
