**Angel City FC Defender Savy King Hospitalized After Collapsing During Match**
In a deeply concerning incident, Angel City FC defender Savy King collapsed on the field during Friday night's match against Utah at BMO Stadium. The 20-year-old player received immediate medical attention, including chest compressions, before being transported to a local hospital. According to Angel City's first assistant coach, Eleri Earnshaw, who was filling in for suspended interim coach Sam Laity, King is responsive and her family and the team's medical staff are with her.
The incident occurred in the 74th minute, causing visible distress among players and staff. Both teams gathered around King as medical personnel attended to her. The NWSL and teams across the league offered support via social media.
Despite the frightening situation, the game continued after a lengthy delay. Christen Press, who came off the bench in the 65th minute, scored almost immediately, giving Angel City the lead. Alyssa Thompson later added a goal during the 12-minute stoppage time, securing a 2-0 victory for Angel City. The win, their second in a row, propelled them into third place in the standings.
The match was the first for Angel City since April 18th and the first after a challenging three-game stretch. King, who joined Angel City in the offseason, quickly became a key player in the team's defense. The post-game saw both teams unite in a prayer circle for King, demonstrating the unity and support within the league. Angel City will return to action next Saturday against Bay FC.
