Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Expands to Ghana, Solidifying Global Presence

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has marked a significant achievement by chartering its inaugural chapter in Ghana, thereby extending its reach to the African continent. This expansion underscores the sorority's enduring dedication to service, leadership, and global sisterhood, while also reinforcing cultural and historical connections with the African diaspora.

The Alpha Delta Psi Omega Chapter was officially chartered on January 16, 2026. The event was celebrated with a private chartering ceremony and a public luncheon. This new chapter is the fourth graduate chapter for the sorority in Africa, joining existing chapters in Liberia, South Africa, and Nigeria.

The establishment of the Ghana chapter is the result of over two years of diligent work by more than two dozen members. These members represent a diverse range of professional fields, including law, medicine, education, fashion, and business. Carrie J. Clark, Alpha Kappa Alpha's International Regional Director, commended the members for their unwavering commitment. She highlighted the positive impact the members have already made in the community, particularly their interactions with children.

The Ghana chapter has already initiated several service projects. These include the donation of over 800 children's books and school supplies, the planting of 108 coconut seedlings at the Aburi Botanical Garden, and the launch of a Youth Leadership Initiative, which currently mentors 30 students. The chapter has also collaborated with organizations such as Bridge-To-Africa Connection and Daughters of the Middle Passage on various service projects.

With a global membership of nearly 400,000, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated continues to broaden its international presence. The chartering of the Ghana chapter serves as a powerful symbol of the sorority's commitment to service, sisterhood, and leadership on a global scale.

BNN's Perspective: The expansion of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority into Ghana is a positive development, demonstrating the organization's commitment to global engagement and community service. The diverse backgrounds of the members and the early implementation of impactful initiatives suggest a promising future for the chapter and its contributions to the local community.
