Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the world, and a significant shift is occurring behind the scenes. Key players in the AI industry, including OpenAI, Nvidia, AMD, Broadcom, and CoreWeave, are constructing a new financial ecosystem. This system is characterized by a circular flow of investment, infrastructure, and demand, blurring the traditional lines between customer, supplier, and partner.
A prime example of this model is the strategic partnership between OpenAI and Nvidia. In September 2025, Nvidia committed to investing up to $100 billion in OpenAI to support the development of advanced AI models. In return, OpenAI agreed to build at least 10 gigawatts of data center capacity utilizing Nvidia's chips. This agreement ensures long-term demand for Nvidia's hardware.
OpenAI has also forged partnerships with other key players. A deal with AMD secures a second source of crucial computing power and provides strategic influence. OpenAI also partnered with Broadcom to co-develop custom AI accelerators, integrating chip design directly into OpenAI's strategic planning. Furthermore, OpenAI signed a $6.5 billion contract with CoreWeave for cloud infrastructure, which runs on Nvidia hardware, and in which Nvidia holds a stake. This intricate web of relationships creates a closed-loop system where capital and resources circulate within the network.
This circular economy offers several advantages. OpenAI gains access to substantial infrastructure without relying solely on external funding. Hardware manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD secure long-term demand, enabling more predictable production planning. Partnerships like the one with Broadcom facilitate deeper integration between software and hardware, enhancing performance and efficiency.
However, this model also presents challenges. The overlapping of investment and procurement makes it difficult to assess the true extent of organic growth. The interconnected nature of the system means that any slowdown within one company can have a ripple effect throughout the network. This interdependence also raises concerns about access, as outsiders may find it increasingly difficult to compete within this closed-knit environment. The industry could potentially shift away from open competition towards selective participation.
