Elden Ring: Nightreign - A "Sporty" Spin-Off with a Faster Pace

FromSoftware's upcoming Elden Ring spin-off, *Nightreign*, is aiming for a significantly different feel than its colossal predecessor. Director Junya Ishizaki describes the game as "sporty," with a "rough and loosened and fast tempo feel," offering a more dynamic and condensed experience. This shift in pace is a deliberate move, designed to create "dramatic and dynamic play sessions" within a shorter timeframe.

Ishizaki emphasizes the "undulation" in *Nightreign*'s structure and game flow, highlighting the highs and lows of the journey. This new approach, he says, is a key element that distinguishes *Nightreign* from the original *Elden Ring*. The development team also adopted a similar "sporty" approach, reflecting the game's faster, more agile design.

While the team is excited about this new direction, Ishizaki acknowledges the uncertainty of how players will respond to this fresh take on the Elden Ring formula. He notes that *Nightreign*, being a smaller project, will inevitably feel different from the expansive scope of its predecessor. The team has also made adjustments based on beta feedback, including balancing difficulty and addressing issues with overpowered abilities like bleed and frost. The game is currently in its final stages of polish, with FromSoftware working on balance "until the last minute."
