"Sanford and Son" Star Demond Wilson Dies at 79
Demond Wilson, the actor best known for his role as Lamont Sanford on the 1970s sitcom "Sanford and Son," has passed away at the age of 79. Wilson died in his sleep on January 30th from complications related to cancer. His publicist confirmed the news, noting that Wilson was surrounded by loved ones in his final days.
Born Grady Demond Wilson in 1946, he began his career at a young age, appearing on Broadway as a child. After serving in the Army, including a tour in Vietnam, Wilson made his television debut in 1971. While "Sanford and Son" remains his most recognizable role, Wilson also appeared in other television series, including "Baby, I'm Back," "The New Odd Couple," and "Girlfriends." His final television appearance was in 2023.
Beyond his acting career, Wilson was a devoted father, author, and minister.
