David Muir Honored by Temple University for Excellence in Journalism

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University recently hosted an event to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of journalism. The university bestowed the 2025 Lew Klein Excellence in Media Award upon David Muir, anchor and managing editor of ABC's "World News Tonight."

Debra O'Connell, President of ABC News Group and Disney Entertainment Networks, presented Muir with the award. In his acceptance speech, Muir emphasized the importance of mentorship and creating opportunities for future generations of journalists. He encouraged aspiring journalists to present facts and truth, allowing viewers to form their own opinions.

The event also celebrated rising talent within the industry. Beccah Hendrickson, a reporter from 6ABC, was recognized by her alma mater. Hendrickson expressed her gratitude for the honor, highlighting the significance of her education and early career experiences.

Bernie Prazenica, President and General Manager of 6ABC and a Temple alumnus, was also acknowledged for his leadership and contributions to the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication. Deborah Cai, the acting dean of the college, praised Prazenica's dedication to supporting students through employment and internship opportunities.

Earlier in the day, Muir engaged with Temple journalism students, offering guidance and encouragement. He stressed the importance of upholding journalistic principles, connecting with audiences, and seeking common ground. Muir described the meeting with students as a highlight of his visit, expressing his admiration for the next generation of media professionals.
