China's Tech Boom: AI Takes Center Stage in Video Production and E-commerce

China is experiencing a significant surge in technology, fueled by advancements in **Generative AI** and supportive government policies. Leading the charge are companies like **iQiyi**, often called "China's Netflix," which is leveraging AI to revolutionize video production. Last week, iQiyi showcased its AI tools in Beijing, demonstrating how they can drastically reduce production costs and refine scripts. The company's virtual studio set and AI's ability to seamlessly transform live-action footage into 3D animation highlight the rapid progress.

This technology, previously unattainable, allows iQiyi to adapt quickly to audience preferences. However, iQiyi acknowledges that AI still has a way to go before it can fully replicate the consistency of live-action shots.

Other Chinese tech giants are also jumping on the AI video bandwagon. **Kuaishou**, a short-video platform, recently updated its AI video generation model, **Kling**. **Alibaba** released its latest open-source AI video generation model, and **Shengshu Technology** upgraded its AI video product, **Vidu Q1**, aiming for cinematic-grade visual effects. Alibaba also unveiled its newest AI model, **Qwen 3**.

This surge in AI investment is evident across the board. Experts like Tim Wang of Monolith Management are optimistic about the future of consumer AI applications in China, citing key breakthroughs in foundational models.

Beyond video, AI is transforming e-commerce. Companies are using AI-powered tools to mitigate the impact of tariffs and boost online sales. **Baidu**, for example, is offering an AI-powered virtual human tool that allows exporters to conduct livestreams. This technology significantly reduces livestreaming costs and can even generate higher purchase rates than human livestreamers. Baidu recently released a more persuasive virtual human and cheaper AI models, further solidifying its position in the market.
