New Director Appointed to Lead $80 Million Cultural Tax District
Denver, CO - The Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), a seven-county metro area organization, has announced the appointment of Andrea Albo as its new director. Albo, a veteran of public service, will assume the role in September, succeeding Deborah Jordy, who is stepping down after a long tenure.
Albo brings 27 years of experience to the position, having held various leadership roles in the public sector. Her previous positions include Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President of Culture and Strategy at Denver International Airport, Chief of Staff for the Denver Sheriff Department, and several roles within the Denver Department of Human Services. Albo is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Denver and the Harvard Kennedy School of State and Local Government.
The selection of Albo followed a national search, according to the SCFD. Jordy, who is departing this summer, will transition into a senior advisory role, focusing on the voter reauthorization of the taxing district. The next voter reauthorization is scheduled for the November 2028 general election.
The SCFD provides crucial funding to arts and culture organizations in the metro area. In the past two years, the district has distributed $80 million in grants annually to over 300 individual nonprofits. Albo expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, emphasizing her commitment to expanding access to arts, culture, and science for all residents.
BNN's Perspective: The appointment of Andrea Albo signals a continuation of the SCFD's commitment to supporting the arts and cultural landscape of the metro area. While Jordy's tenure was marked by significant achievements, including navigating the challenges of the pandemic, Albo's extensive experience in public service positions her well to lead the organization forward. The upcoming voter reauthorization in 2028 will be a critical test for the SCFD, and Albo's leadership will be essential in ensuring the continued financial support for the region's vibrant cultural sector.
