Delta Regional Jets Collide at LaGuardia, One Injured

New York, NY - A collision between two Delta Air Lines regional jets occurred Wednesday evening at LaGuardia Airport. The incident involved two Endeavor Air flights, both Delta Connection aircraft, during taxiing operations.

According to a statement released by Delta, Endeavor flight 5155, preparing for departure, made contact with Endeavor flight 5047, which was taxiing towards its gate after arrival. The airline described the incident as a low-speed collision.

Air Traffic Control audio captured a pilot reporting damage to the aircraft's windscreen and cockpit screens.

A flight attendant sustained a minor injury and was transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. No passenger injuries were reported. The Port Authority confirmed the incident occurred around 9:56 p.m. and stated that airport operations were unaffected.

Delta has stated that its teams at LaGuardia are focused on assisting affected customers. The airline has also committed to cooperating with the Port Authority, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board in their investigations into the cause of the collision. Delta has issued an apology to its customers for the incident, emphasizing that the safety of its customers and personnel is paramount.

BNN's Perspective: While any incident involving aircraft is concerning, the fact that this collision occurred at low speed and resulted in only minor injuries is a positive sign. The swift response from Delta and the commitment to a thorough investigation are crucial steps in ensuring the safety of air travel. It is important to allow the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations and determine the cause of the incident to prevent future occurrences.
