Bitcoin ATM Installations Surge Globally in First Half of 2025
The global cryptocurrency ATM market experienced a significant expansion during the first half of 2025, with over 1,000 new Bitcoin ATMs installed worldwide. This growth, highlighted in the Finbold H1 2025 Cryptocurrency Market Report, indicates a continued investment in crypto infrastructure despite varying regional trends.
The total number of crypto ATMs globally increased from 37,722 on January 1 to 38,726 by June 30, representing a net increase of 1,004 machines.
The United States, which had a challenging start to the year, saw a remarkable turnaround. In the first quarter of 2025, the U.S. experienced a net decline of 185 Bitcoin ATMs. However, the second quarter witnessed a strong recovery, with 513 new ATMs added, bringing the total to 30,447 by the end of June. This rebound is attributed to improved regulatory clarity and increased institutional involvement in the American market.
Australia led the growth in relative terms, adding 491 new ATMs during the first half of the year. The country's total ATM count rose from 1,385 to 1,876, reflecting rising retail adoption and favorable fintech conditions.
Canada also contributed to the expansion, adding a total of 245 ATMs in H1. Europe experienced a more gradual but consistent increase, with a total gain of 149 ATMs during the same period.
BNN's Perspective: The growth in Bitcoin ATM installations suggests a sustained interest in cryptocurrency accessibility. While the U.S. recovery is encouraging, the varying regional trends highlight the evolving nature of the crypto market and the importance of regulatory environments in fostering growth. This expansion should be monitored closely as it could indicate a broader acceptance of digital currencies.
