"Evita" Revival Starring Rachel Zegler Headed to Broadway in 2027

Broadway audiences are in for a treat as the highly acclaimed revival of the musical "Evita," starring Rachel Zegler, is slated to open in Spring 2027. Zegler, who has garnered significant praise for her portrayal of Eva Perón, the Argentinian first lady, will reprise her role in the production.

The Broadway revival will be produced by Jamie Lloyd for The Jamie Lloyd Company and Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, in collaboration with LW Entertainment. The musical's composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, expressed his excitement, stating he is delighted to see Jamie Lloyd's production head to Broadway. He also highlighted the generational talent of Rachel Zegler.

Zegler echoed the enthusiasm, calling the opportunity to bring "Evita" to Broadway a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." She also expressed her anticipation to perform for New York City audiences.

The revival, which debuted at the London Palladium last summer, was a resounding success. The London production earned two Olivier Awards, including Best Actress in a Musical for Zegler. However, the iconic outdoor performance of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" witnessed by hundreds in London will not be replicated in the Broadway production. Director Lloyd confirmed that a new staging concept, specifically designed for Broadway, is in development. The specific Shubert theater where the production will be staged is yet to be announced.

BNN's Perspective: The arrival of "Evita" on Broadway, with its proven success and a star like Rachel Zegler, is a welcome development for the theater community. While the absence of the outdoor performance is a slight disappointment, the promise of a fresh staging tailored for Broadway suggests a commitment to innovation. This production has the potential to introduce a new generation to a classic musical while also offering a fresh perspective for long-time fans.
