TerraMaster Launches High-Speed, Silent SSD Enclosure
TerraMaster has released the D1 SSD Plus, a new USB4 enclosure designed for high-speed NVMe SSDs. This enclosure caters to creative professionals, gamers, and mobile office users seeking portable, high-performance storage solutions. The D1 SSD Plus supports transfer speeds up to 40Gbps, making it suitable for demanding tasks like 4K/8K video editing and can be used as a macOS boot drive.
The enclosure is compatible with 2280 M.2 NVMe SSDs, accommodating drives up to 8TB in capacity. Its USB4 40Gbps interface works with various interfaces, including USB4, Thunderbolt 3/4/5, and USB-C, and is compatible with macOS, Windows, Linux, and PS5s. The interface allows for impressive read speeds up to 3,853MB/s and write speeds up to 3,707MB/s. This translates to rapid data transfers, such as transferring a 3GB video in approximately one second.
A key feature of the D1 SSD Plus is its passive cooling system. Constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum, the enclosure utilizes a large heatsink instead of a fan, ensuring silent operation. This design prevents performance throttling and potential damage from overheating, crucial for maintaining the longevity and performance of the SSD. The enclosure's robust aluminum construction is reportedly up to 300% stronger than standard metal. The design also includes a micro-perforated LED indicator for activity, anti-slip silicone footpads, and easy SSD installation.
The D1 SSD Plus also offers a two-year global warranty and lifetime technical support. It includes the TDAS Mobile app for iOS and Android, enabling one-tap backup of data. Additionally, it supports scheduled, incremental, and differential backups on Windows through the TPC Backupper software, while Mac users can utilize macOS Time Machine. The D1 SSD Plus is available through the TerraMaster official website, authorized channels, and Amazon, priced at $119.99 without an SSD.
BNN's Perspective: The TerraMaster D1 SSD Plus appears to be a well-designed solution for users needing fast, portable storage. The focus on silent operation and efficient cooling is a significant advantage, especially for professionals working in audio or video production. While the price point is competitive, consumers should consider the cost of an NVMe SSD when evaluating the overall value.
