Mets' Comeback Falls Short Against IronPigs in Windy Sunday Matchup
Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Mets put up a valiant fight on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium, but ultimately fell short against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, losing 8-6. Despite a strong offensive showing, including the return of Ronny Mauricio, the Mets couldn't overcome an early deficit.
Lehigh Valley (31-14) came out swinging, jumping to a commanding 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning. This forced Syracuse (20-25) to play catch-up for the remainder of the game. While the Mets chipped away at the lead throughout the afternoon, they were unable to fully close the gap.
Ronny Mauricio, returning to Syracuse after recovering from knee surgery, had a productive day at the plate with two hits. Jared Young also had a strong performance, driving in three runs. Other key contributors included Luis De Los Santos, Hayden Senger, Donovan Walton, Jon Singleton, and Gilberto Celestino.
The Mets' bullpen showed resilience, allowing only two unearned runs after starter Brandon Waddell struggled in the early innings. Syracuse will look to bounce back as they kick off a six-game series against the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday night. Right-hander Brandon Sproat will take the mound for the Mets, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
BNN's Perspective: While it's disappointing to see the Mets lose, the team showed grit and determination in their comeback attempt. The return of Mauricio is a positive sign, and the bullpen's performance after the rough start is encouraging. Hopefully, they can carry this momentum into their series against Rochester.
