MLB All-Stars to Receive Contract Bonuses
As the MLB All-Star Week festivities kick off, several players are celebrating more than just their selection to the prestigious roster. Six All-Stars will receive contract bonuses, totaling $425,000.
The bonuses have sparked some debate, particularly after Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Snchez missed out on a $50,000 bonus due to not being selected. However, the Phillies will still award him the bonus.
Three players will receive substantial $100,000 bonuses. Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jos Ramrez, despite opting out of the game, earned the bonus. Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom, one of the oldest All-Stars at 37, also secured a $100,000 bonus, adding to his $40 million base salary. Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta will also receive a $100,000 bonus.
Two former New York Mets teammates will each receive $50,000 bonuses. Shortstop Francisco Lindor, making his fifth All-Star appearance, will be joined by closer Edwin Daz, who is in the third year of a significant contract.
Seattle Mariners center fielder Julio Rodrguez will receive a $25,000 bonus. However, his bonus could lead to a more lucrative payout. His contract includes a player option that increases in value based on All-Star selections and Silver Slugger Awards.
BNN's Perspective:
While contract bonuses are a common part of professional sports, the varying amounts and the circumstances surrounding their attainment can be a point of contention. It's important to recognize the value of these players and the impact they have on the game.
