Montell Jordan Announces Cancer Recurrence

R&B singer Montell Jordan has revealed that his prostate cancer has returned, nearly a year after undergoing surgery to remove his prostate. In an exclusive interview, Jordan shared that follow-up scans detected the cancer months after his initial treatment.

Jordan, 56, was diagnosed with Stage 1 prostate cancer in early 2024 after routine screening revealed elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. He subsequently underwent a prostatectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the prostate. Despite the surgery and clear margins initially, the cancer has been detected again, necessitating further treatment.

Jordan, known for his hit song "This Is How We Do It," has continued to record and perform music since its release 30 years ago. He also became a pastor. Jordan expressed that the initial diagnosis was alarming, but he was hopeful due to the early detection. He emphasized the importance of early detection, which allowed him to choose treatment options and maintain a good quality of life.

Jordan is partnering with the nonprofit ZERO Prostate Cancer to raise awareness about the importance of regular prostate cancer screening, particularly for Black men. He is also working on a documentary, "Sustain," which will detail his experience with cancer and is scheduled to premiere next year.

BNN's Perspective:

Montell Jordan's openness about his cancer journey is commendable. His advocacy for early detection and his partnership with ZERO Prostate Cancer are crucial steps in raising awareness and encouraging men, especially those at higher risk, to prioritize their health. His story underscores the importance of ongoing monitoring even after initial treatment and highlights the need for continued research and advancements in cancer care.
