Barco and Vue Partner to Expand HDR Cinema Experience Across Europe

Barco, a leader in laser projection technology, and Vue, a major European cinema operator, have announced a partnership to bring HDR by Barco technology to Vue's new EPIC cinema format. This collaboration will see the rollout of advanced projection systems across Europe, enhancing the cinematic experience for moviegoers.

The initiative will begin with the opening of 11 EPIC screens in the U.K., Italy, and the Netherlands by the end of 2025. Further expansion is planned, with an additional 50 screens slated to open by the end of 2027. The first of these new EPIC screens is scheduled to open by the end of July.

HDR by Barco utilizes Lightsteering technology, combining high-brightness lasers with advanced algorithms to deliver superior image quality. This technology provides six times the brightness of standard digital cinema and offers an expanded color range, enabling true high dynamic range (HDR) images.

The EPIC by Vue format aims to provide a premium cinema experience, competing with established formats like IMAX Laser and Dolby Cinema. Each EPIC theatre will feature Dolby Atmos audio, enhancing the immersive experience. Vue emphasizes that the EPIC format will utilize the best available technology, including HDR by Barco projection and Dolby Atmos sound, to deliver breathtaking color, expansive screens, and studio-quality audio. Each EPIC screen will also feature the largest screen at its respective location.
