Google Enters the Mood Board Arena with AI-Powered Mixboard
Google has entered the competitive mood board market with the launch of Mixboard, an AI-powered application designed to help users create visual collages. The service, currently available in public beta in the U.S. through Google Labs, allows users to generate mood boards using text prompts, eliminating the need for pre-existing image collections. Users can also edit pre-populated boards for a jumpstart.
Mixboard leverages Google's new image editing model, Nano Banana, which is known for its ability to handle complex edits and produce realistic images. Users can refine their creations by requesting edits, changes, or image combinations. The application aims to cater to a wide range of creative endeavors, including home decor, event planning, and DIY projects.
The move positions Google directly against Pinterest, which has long dominated the mood board space with its collage feature. The company also saw viral success with a standalone collage-making app, Shuffles, which was later integrated into Pinterest itself. Mixboard offers features to regenerate images for fresh ideas and generate text based on the images on users boards. U.S. users can access the application through labs.google/mixboard and engage with a dedicated Discord community.
