Elon Musk Reveals "Quiet Trial" of Trump's $5 Million Gold Card Visa

Elon Musk has revealed that the government is quietly testing the controversial $5 million "Trump Gold Card Visa," a program proposed by President Donald Trump earlier this year. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO made the announcement via a tweet, responding to reports that the visa was already appearing in some online immigration applications.

Musk stated that the trial is underway to "make sure the system works properly" before a public rollout, which will be announced by the President. However, details about the trial's scope and methodology remain scarce.

The Trump Gold Card Visa, first introduced in February, is intended to replace the EB-5 program. It promises permanent residency and work authorization to those who invest $5 million in the U.S. The President has stated that the revenue generated from the card sales would be used to pay down the national debt. The card's benefits would mirror those of a green card holder, excluding the right to vote or hold public office.

While the exact timeline for the public launch remains unclear, officials have previously indicated an imminent rollout. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated in April that the administration planned to launch the card within a week and a half. Lutnick also claimed to have sold 1,000 gold cards in March.

The announcement of the visa program came amid Trump's efforts to increase deportations. The President had previously stated his intention to carry out the largest mass deportation effort in U.S. history.

BNN's Perspective: While the concept of attracting investment through a visa program isn't inherently flawed, the high price tag of the Trump Gold Card raises concerns about exclusivity and potential inequities. The lack of transparency surrounding the trial and the program's details is also concerning. A well-structured program with clear guidelines and robust vetting could be beneficial, but it's crucial to ensure fairness and avoid creating a system that favors the wealthy.
